Bristol City have signed Senegal international striker Famara Diedhiou for £5.3m from French Ligue 1 club Angers on a four-year-deal.

The signing surpasses the previous transfer record of £3.25m for Ivorian striker Jonathan Kodjia in 2015, who was also signed from Angers.

Diedhiou scored nine times in 36 appearances last season in France’s top division.

Bristol had goals from Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham last season, with the 19-year-old being the Robin’s top scorer in 2016-17 with 26 goals.

Abraham is expected to be loaned to a Premier League side next season, so the reason for this is to sign a goalscorer.
