Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has signed a one-year deal with Indonesian side Persib Bandung.
The 34-year old Ghanaian has the option to extend his contract with the club, who won the Indonesian title in 2014 and finished third in the recent President’s Cup.
Essien has been a free agent since leaving Greek Superleague club Panathinaikos at the end of last season.
After representing numerous top European clubs including AC Milan and Real Madrid, along with captaining his country, he is the highest profile signing in Indonesian football in recent decades.
Teddy Tjahyono, part of the Persib Bandung management stated that the reason for bringing Michael Essien to Indonesia is in order to increase the value of competition in the country.
