Midfielder Cheick Tiote has joined Chinese side Beijing Enterprises from Newcastle United.

The Ivory Coast international spent spent five-and-a-half seasons at St.James’ Park and will now appear in the second-tier of Chinese football.

The move comes as a surprise after it was expected that he would sign for Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng.

At this point no details of the transfer have been disclosed by Beijing Enterprises.

The 30-year-old had previously been linked with a number of clubs, including teams in the middle-east, but now he will attempt to help his new club gain promotion to the top division.
