Aston Villa have signed midfielder Birkir Bjarnason on a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The Iceland international went down in history when he scored his country’s first goal at a European competition last year in France.

The 28 year-old joins from Swiss champions FC Basel whom he played five times for in the Champions League.

He was key in his first full season for Basel as he netted 16 goals in all competitions leading up to the title.
