Birmingham City have confirmed the signing of Besiktas winger Kerim Frei on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Frei becomes Gianfranco Zola’s fifth signing of the January transfer window after striker Lukas Jutkiewicz, Craig Gardner and defenders Emilio Nsue and Cheick Keita.

Birmingham agreed an undisclosed fee with the Turkish Süper Lig side, reportedly around £2.2m.

The 23 year-old who has won five caps for Turkey, after previously representing Switzerland, the country where he was raised.

Frei joined Besiktas from now Championship side Fulham, he spent three seasons at the Turkish giants playing 103 games and scoring 13 goals.
