Middlesbrough have confirmed the signing Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford for a fee reported to be around £5.5 million.

The 23 year-old signs on a four-and-a-half-year deal and returns to the club where he spent the 2014-15 season on loan from the Chelsea.

His recent loan spell at Burnley at the start of Premier League season led to six appearances and no goals, this was his sixth loan spell away from Stamford Bridge.

Bamford never made a first-team appearance for the Blues after signing from Nottingham Forest for £1.5 million in 2012.

In his first spell with Middlesbrough, Bamford finished as the club’s top scorer with 19 goals and was also named Player of the Year in the Championship that year.
